Résumé Partie Laser rétinien : Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (L.A.S.E.R.) are nowadays used in all areas of ophthalmology. This workshop focuses on laser treatments of the retina and shows important information about the theoretical basics, obligatory laser safety and treatment recommendations. During the practical "hands-on" parts, the participants have the chance to carry out laser treatments with real state-of-the-art laser devices on model eyes. The lecturers, Katrin F. Fasler and Daniel R. Muth, give individual and practical tips. The aim of the workshop is to make laser newbies fit(ter) for everyday laser use and to convey the usefulness of this fascinating technology.

Résumé : The session opens with experienced ophthalmic surgeons sharing practical tips and tricks for cataract surgery. This is followed by the presentation of six award-winning videos featuring challenging cataract cases, with a focus on surgical decision-making and key learning points.

Résumé : Im Course „Fahreignung und Sehvermögen“ werden durch Frau Dr. Keller die rechtlichen Grundlagen und die verkehrsmedizinische Sicht bei der Beurteilung der Fahreignung präsentiert. Dr. Blaser zeigt dann in seinem Vortrag auf, wie die Richtlinien bezüglich „Fahreignung und Sehvermögen“ aus ophthalmologischer Sicht anzuwenden sind und diskutiert diese anhand von Fallbeispielen.

11h00-13h00 (Theory) & 14h30-16h15 (Practical Part) Intravitreal Injection (IVI) Workshop (EN)

Résumé : This SOG-SSO course, which is exclusively conducted by leading Swiss Medical Retina experts of Swiss A/B clinics, includes the following aspects of intravitreal therapies:
- overview of all medications approved in Switzerland for intravitreal treatment, including their approval restrictions and administrative aspects
- detailed discussion of diseases with approved intravitreal treatment including current treatment guidelines as well as tips and tricks for difficult cases
- current Swiss guidelines/requirements on applications, sites, personnel etc
- patient education, early recognition and management of side effects

Beside the first, theoretical, part of the course there will be a second, practical part (optional) with the opportunity to practice on the pig's eye with various materials (various pre-filled syringes, medications drawn up from vials) under the guidance of experienced injectors.

- colleagues newly starting intravitreal injections
- experienced injectors who want an update
- FEBO exam candidates for a complete update on the topic
- colleagues who directly provide indications for injection/re-injection and therefore need to be up-to-date on indications, re-embursement situations, treatment regimens and side effects

 

14h30-18h30 et jeudi 27 août 2026 08h00-12h00 Workshop : YSO My Cataract Journey: Hands On Cataract Workshop (EN)

Résumé : During this Workshop you will learn and train in cataract surgery to improve your skills ; participants will practice preoperative examinations (biometry, ultrasound), IOL handling, phakodynamics and train surgical steps on various models (simulator, silicone models, pig eyes, DryLab and WetLab).

The following stations are foreseen:
- PreOP: Topo, US & BIometry
- Phakodynamics, draping & instruments
- IOL
- DryLab
- Wetlab
- Sutures

Groupes cibles : Advanced interns with minimum 3 years of ophthalmological training and young residents in surgical training.

 

14h30-16h15 Interactive Course: Interdisciplinary Course in thyroid orbitopathy (EN)

Résumé: In this interactive interdisciplinary course on endocrine orbitopathy we will first review the state of the art of endocrine orbitopathy:
What is this? How to recognize it? What are the current treatment recommendations?
How can we surgically best rehabilitate the patient?

This short introduction will be followed a longer interactive discussion with participants on diagnosis and best treatment procedure based on real cases of endocrine orbitopathy.
Participants may submit case presentations to the speakers up to 4 weeks prior to the meeting and may then present them in the workshop for interdisciplinary and interactive discussion.

16h45-18h30 Interactive course : Rare eye diseases: update (EN)

Résumé : Rare diseases of the eye include genetic eye diseases and ocular malformation, inflammatory eye diseases, and vascular diseases of the eye. The two latter topics are already covered by workshops during the SOG meeting (uveitis workshop, retinopathy of prematurity as biannual workshop in uneven years). Thus, this workshop will cover genetic eye diseases, specifically with retinal manifestation.
Four experts will discuss with you in small groups and in interactive way the disease groups of (1) Leber congenital amaurosis/ early onset retinal dystrophy, (2) macular dystrophy, (3) stationary and progressive retinal degeneration (4) hereditary vitreoretinopathies. All subsections will include non-syndromic and syndromic types. We will focus on (a) ‘what does the patient/ caregivers feel/ observe, (b) function, (c) imaging, and (d) genetics. The final discussion with all group leaders and workshop participants will round up your experience and engage your knowledge of rare eye diseases with the retinal manifestation of genetic causes.
